The condom is a device usually made of latex used during sexual intercourse by men, to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. The condom is a barrier device that aids in preventing sexually transmitted diseases and could be quite possibly the most common type of birth control used. A condom is easy to use, convienent, effective, and has very few side effects. Some disadvantages of the condom include some couples opinoin that putting on a male condom interrupts sex. Some men and women find the physical barrier of a condom dulls sensation, although there are styles available that are designed to increase stimulation for the woman. Condoms are usually made of latex, but now plyurethane condoms are available to those with latex allergies. However, polyurethane are more likely to slip and break. Some condoms are still made of lambskin, but these are less effective at combatting STDs. There is also research to invent an invisable condom that is gel like substance to prevent pregnancy and STDs.
Condoms can be simple or more extravagant including different colors, thickness, or taste. Some have a spermicide lubricant added to further prevent pregnancy. It is extrememly important to use condoms to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. However, condoms are not 100% effective at prevneting STDs or pregnancy. Recently even a female condom has been released to market. The female condom has not caught on, though it does provide women a proactive choice for protecting against sexally transmitted disease and pregnancy.
